A pivotal track in the development of electronic music and hip hop in the 1980's, this cut from Art Of Noise's debut EP 'Into The Battle With The Art Of Noise' was originally released in 1983. 'Beat Box' has also been remixed and re-released a number of times, becoming a hit in the clubs.
Parts of the song bear a similarity to the group's theme music for TV show The Krypton Factor.
The band originally comprised of engineer/producer Gary Langan and programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley. After a number of line-up changes, years later they went onto enjoy a couple of Top 20 hits with the Tom Jones-assisted cover of Prince's 'Kiss' and the Grammy Award winning instrumental 'Peter Gunn'
The group are noted for innovative use of sampling, electronics and computers in pop music. Various incarnations of Art Of Noise continued making music until 1990, and again from 1998 to 2000, as well as in 2017.
