The Vault: Depeche Mode - 'New Life'

Time for another edition of a brand new feature. While Track Of The Day brings you new music and Rewind takes you back 20 years, The Vault deals in amazing songs from random points in musical history. RW/FF will keep these posts short and sweet, with only a small bit of basic info. All you have to do is press play and enjoy.

I was first made aware of Depeche Mode in the early 90's through my Uncle Justin who was a big fan, and owned most of their albums. I was also intrigued by the singles from the superb 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' that were ever-present on TV and radio back then. Ironically it took me quite a few years to fully appreciate this band, but now I own a number of their albums on vinyl. The synthpop classic 'New Life' was the band's second single, and can be found on their debut album 'Speak And Spell'. This song was released in May 1981 and became their breakthrough hit, reaching number 11 in the UK charts.

The legendary Basildon group have now sold over 100 million records worldwide, and will be touring next year, with tickets on sale this Friday (October 14). They will also be releasing a new album, entitled 'Spirit' early next year. It's produced by James Ford, and is their 14th full-length effort.
