REWIND: Space - 'Female Of The Species'

More wonderful music from 1996 as RW/FF takes you aboard a musical TARDIS on a journey through musical history. If you weren't around or were too young to remember the mid 90s, consider this a lesson of enlightenment. If you (like me) were lucky enough to experience it all first time around, then these posts make a fine nostalgic blast from the blast.

The brilliant, darkly comical 'Female Of The Species' was probably the first Space track I ever heard, and was included on the Liverpool band's debut album 'Spiders', which I used to play a cassette copy of a lot at my art classes in secondary school. The album has sold over 800,000 copies to date, and this classic single reached number 14 in the charts when it was released as a single in May 1996. Space split in 2005, but reformed in 2011 with a slightly revised line-up and released the album 'Attack Of The Mutant 50ft Kebab' in 2014, with a follow-up 'Give Me Your Future' due later this year.
