This afternoon, I was saddened to learn about the tragic and premature death of former Primal Scream guitarist Robert 'Throb' Young, who was only 49 years old. Although Throb left the band eight years ago in 2006, his role in the band's story was vital, and he was of course an amazing guitarist who lived and breathed rock n roll. Young founded the band with school friend and singer Bobby Gillespie in Glasgow in 1984 and played with them for 22 years. I was lucky enough to see him play live twice when I watched the band play on two astonishing occasions 14 years ago back in 2000. He also played on some of the greatest songs of all time.
Even though my favourite Primal Scream album is 1997's incredible 'Vanishing Point', apparently "Throb wasn't around much" for that album. So here's a beautiful moment from 1991 that provides a peaceful, soulful moment of melancholia in among the euphoria of the band's seminal 'Screamadelica'. Throb, RW/FF salutes you.
