Here's a reggae classic, written by one legend and sung by another. 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' was written by Jimmy Cliff, and this particular version performed by Desmond Dekker, which reached No.2 in the UK singles charts. Dekker was initially reluctant to record the track but was eventually persuaded to do so by producer Leslie Kong. Dekker's version uses the same backing track as Cliff's original. In 1972 the rude boy film "The Harder They Come" was released and Dekker's '007 (Shanty Town)' was also featured on the soundtrack, which played a major part in popularizing reggae in the United States and the world beyond, the film itself preventing the genre from remaining an isolated phenomenon in Jamaica.
