SONG FOR TODAY: Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo featuring Frank Turner - Fields of June

My current rules for the 'Song For Today' feature demand that no one band or artist is to be featured more than once. Frank Turner has already featured, but this track here includes him as a kind of guest vocalist I suppose. Hot on the heels of performing with Frank at the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo have this released new single, ‘Fields Of June’.

Friends and musical peers since meeting in 2006 after sharing a stage in London, Emily and Frank have been inspired by duets by artists such as Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood and Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue, and they have teamed up to create the dark ballad.

‘Fields Of June’ is backed with Emily’s theme tune to Kenneth Brannagh’s television series, Wallander which recently aired on ABC1. The song, ‘Nostalgia’ won her and the composer Martin Phipps a BAFTA for Best Soundtrack. 'Fields Of June' was originally featured on Barker's 2008 album 'Photos. Fires. Fables.' Emily Barker and her band, who are about to hit the road supporting Frank Turner's short tour, will be performing the duet at each show.
