'Nothing Like This' is one side of a double A side single released by Bristol five piece Goan Dogs a few weeks ago. At the end of April in fact! Belated, but it's never too late to hear something brilliant. A jazzy haze of chords is paired with dreamy guitars that drift in and out of the frame, while psychedelic harmonies and intricate rhythms flow wonderfully, bursting into uplifting brass towards the end. Vocally, and in terms of sound and instrumentation, they remind me a lot of The Coral, yet their melodies and lyrical style come from somewhere entirely different altogether. Hotly tipped as one of Bristol's "bands to watch", Goan Dogs have so far supported the likes of Maps and Atlases, Kyla La Grange and The Handsome Family, as well as headlining their own shows. Championed by Guy Garvey and Tom Robinson on 6Music, their self-released debut EP from 2013, '20 Minutes From The Border', bagged some impressive reviews. The group describe their music as "a cinematic sound with varied influences ranging from the dusty desert vibes of Ry Cooder and Calexico to the pulsating rhythms of Queens Of The Stone Age."
