REWIND: Levellers - 'Elation' (Live)

Haunting, poignant and truly spellbinding live performance of a song originally recorded for the band's 1997 album 'Mouth To Mouth'. Unbelievable that a song as incredible as this wasn't even considered as a single release at the time. This particular live version can be found on the 'Chaos Theory' DVD, a 2006 release that documents one of the band's many highly acclaimed live shows.

This year will be an enjoyable one for Levellers fans. The band are on tour in the UK throughout June and July (dates below), and frontman (well, one of them) Mark Chadwick releases his second solo album 'Moment' on June 16. Pre-order a signed copy the album HERE. A film entitled 'A Curious Life' is due for release this year, and is (in director Dunstan Bruce's words) "a feature documentary telling the story of the Levellers via the eccentric artist, archivist, whiskey loving bassist Jeremy Cunningham". Looking forward to that. See the trailer just below the video for 'Elation'.

The band have recently been in the studio with not only Frank Turner, but also the heroic Mr Billy Bragg. When I met him recently, I asked Billy exactly what was going to become of these collaborations. As expected, he kept tight lipped, but with the upcoming film on its way, its possible that we could be getting a soundtrack album of Levellers classics re-recorded with special guests... In the meantime, seek out a copy of the 'Chaos Theory' DVD for an idea of how brilliant this legendary Brighton-based outfit are when they take to the stage...
