Another in the '1 To Z' series... I think I first heard of Alabama 3 when they supported Primal Scream on a tour in the late 90's. The single 'Ain't Going To Goa' was played quite a bit on Radio 1's legendary Evening Session around the same time, but it was the hypnotic 'Woke Up This Morning' that caught my attention. And this was before it was the theme tune to The Sopranos, or at least before I knew it was. In fact I'd never even heard of The Sopranos until the sleeve of this CD single stated that it was the theme tune. That led me to watch a lot of that particular show in the late 90's, which may not have happened if it wasn't for Alabama 3... Wikipedia: "Alabama 3 are an English band mixing rock, dance, blues, country, gospel, and spoken word styles, founded in Brixton, London in 1995. In the United States, the band are known as A3, allegedly to avoid any possible legal conflict with the country music band Alabama. The band are particularly notable for their fusion of styles, lyrics full of ironic intent, their deliberately humorous personas and their outrageous live performances. Every member of the group has an alias by which he is known, the band's founding members adopting the personas Larry Love (Rob Spragg) and The Very Reverend Dr. D. Wayne Love (Jake Black)."
