Noel Gallagher Week on RW/FF continues with a song that was featured on the B-side on the first Oasis single I ever bought, 1994's majestic 'Whatever'. However, since I bought the cassette version (which didn't feature this song) I didn't know about this superb track until I upgraded to the CD version of the single about a year later. Like much of the seminal debut album 'Definitely Maybe', the charming 'Half The World Away' talks of escape from a humdrum life in a boring city. The song is said to be heavily inspired by the Burt Bacharach classic 'This Guy's In Love With You'. A few years after its original release, the song gained a well deserved growth of recognition after it was used as the theme tune to BBC sitcom The Royle Family.
