REWIND: The Lightning Seeds - 'Sugar Coated Iceberg'

Today's 'REWIND' comes from the Lightning Seeds. That other music site that I write for (God Is In The TV) regularly features some brilliant interviews, and last week our man Sean BW Parker spoke to Lightning Seeds frontman Ian Broudie about his production work, chart success and 'Three Lions' amongst other things. I'll be honest and say that at one point in the 90's I REALLY liked this band (although they're not actually a band) and then went off them soon afterwards. However recent years have seen my opinion change once again, and I now own two Lightning Seeds albums.

The 1996 LP 'Dizzy Heights' featured Broudie collaborating with a number of interesting people including Terry Hall, Nicky Wire, and the genius that is Babybird's Stephen Jones, who co-wrote this dazzling pop gem. According to Wikipedia, "Broudie admired Jones a contemporary songwriter partially due to the sense of humour exhibited in his lyrics. On hearing 'You're Gorgeous' and 'Too Handsome To Be Homeless' played live, Broudie suggested to Jones that it would be "great to get together and write a song"..." Stephen Jones is currently working on a new solo album, and an epic amount of new music he has made over the last year or so can be found at his Bandcamp page HERE.
