SONG FOR TODAY: Members Of The Public - Magic Ingredient

Heard this a while ago on Gideon Coe's BBC 6Music show, and thought it was a new release. But from what I can see this band went their separate ways quite some time ago now. Oh well... Signed to Shifty Disco records, the label said in a press release: "Forming in London in the summer of 2005, via such places as Middlesbrough and Portugal, Members of the Public settled in a disused abattoir on the outskirts of the capital.

Stages have been shared with The Sunshine Underground, Editors, The Rakes and Good Shoes, where Members of the Public proved that if you see them the first time by accident, you see them the next on purpose. This summer (five years ago) they begged, borrowed and charmed their way into Bark Studios to create their debut album with producer Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine). Hewn from blood, sweat, heartache and handjobs, it is a record of contrasts – from menacing melancholy to urgent, frenetic pop...and some freaky happenings in between.

Members of the Public are Paul (Vox, Six Strings, Keys), Lee (Six Strings, Keys), Woody (Backing Vox, Harmonies, and a Broke Beat Kit), Franky (Four Strings) and Gaz (Six Strings)..."
