RECORD STORE DAY 2012 : Wiltshire/Bath/Bristol

So this year's RECORD STORE DAY is only days away, so today I will be profiling the BEST shops in the South West to purchase your music from.

First up is perhaps my nearest independent record shop, RAVES FROM THE GRAVE in Frome, which now also has a sister shop in Warminster. Raves From The Grave opened in Frome, Somerset in 1997 initially selling second hand cds, tapes and vinyl. Since then they have expanded and now with a second shop in Warminster, stock over 100,000 new cds dvds and vinyl records covering all tastes and genres.

"Both Frome and Warminster shops will be taking part with racks of limited edition vinyl released only to Independent Record Shops, available for one day only.  Both stores will open bang on 9.00am and will sell on a first come first served basis.  So be there early to bag a corker … we have had queues in previous years waiting for us to open!

We won’t know until a few days before exactly what stock we will receive …. A full list of what is being released can be found on www.recordstoreday.co.uk and we will update our website as soon as our stock arrives but rest assured we’ve tried to order everything we possibly could from Abba to Atari and III,  David Bowie to Bo Ningen, Cradle of Filth to Captain Beefheart, Sex Pistols to Santigold plus everything inbetween!

Helping us celebrate in Warminster will be THE BLOOD CHOIR (IRL Records) playing live at 11.00am (see details below).

The Blood Choir | Saturday 21st April | 11am

We're very happy to announce The Blood Choir will be playing at 11am in our Warminster shop to celebrate Record Store Day. They'll also have some very limited edition CD singles available to buy at the gig. The Blood Choir are Robin Maddicott, Joe Mountain, Rod Brakes and Sam Selby. Their debut album No Windows To The Old World will be released in June 2012 on IRL/Top Cat Music. They are gaining interest on both sides of the pond with they’re alternative post-rock experimental sounds. Think The National meets Portishead."

Also taking part in Record Store Day 2012 is the excellent RISE RECORDS in Swindon and Bristol. The Wonder Stuff's Miles Hunt will be performing instore at the Bristol shop. On their website they wrote:

"Please note that usual Record Store Day rules apply to products, these are:

- Products sold on a strictly first come, first served basis, no reserves or holds. Doesn't matter who you are!
- We will issue a list of all the products we have and prices to anyone who wants one. The first 20 customers will be able to mark what they want and we will have the stock ready for you. This is to ensure fairness in that the first person in the queue gets first option!
- All Rise stores will open at 8am and we will let in around 20 people at a time to manage the queue in an orderly way. We will be on hand with lists and cakes to help with your search and help make it an enjoyable experience!
- Strictly x 1 copy of each title per person. You can buy as many titles as you want but only one of each! No, one for me, one for ebay going on here!
- We will sell any unsold products online from 00:01 on Saturday 28th April.
No doubt we will have some great instores and events lined up to celebrate the day.
